April Fools’ Day is an annual holiday that occurs on the first day of April that consists of practical jokes, pranks and hoaxes. Pranksters announce their joke by yelling a loud and proud, “April Fools’!” at their victim.

April Fools’ Day is one of the most widely recognized non-religious holidays in the Western world.
While no one seems to know its true origins, historians have linked April Fools' Day to the ancient Roman festival of "Hilaria," while others believe that it has to do with the switch from the Julian calendar to Gregorian. April 1 used to be the first day of the year but when the date of New Year’s day moved to January 1, it obviously took some time for everyone to catch on to it. Those who were a bit behind the times still celebrated on April 1, and were considered fools for doing so.

In the era of 'fake news' it's often difficult on a normal day of the year to figure out when we're being tricked into believing something that isn't true, but on April Fool's Day you need to be even more alert. No one knows exactly how the tradition started, but there are plenty of people who enjoy this whimsical day and are delighted to keep the tradition alive.

Here are some outrageous selections to jazz up your day!
