Thirty Bench Sparkling Riesling

Description

Been some time since last tasting the cracker of cracker sparkling rieslings and sometimes a higher yearning, learning and ripeness of fruit will make hay with its scintillant host. As is the case with this most recent Thirty Bench aged on lees for 12 months. No loss of zest or appetite for the crunchy one and yet get a mouthful from a bite into a dripping August nectarine. Drink 2024-2027. Last tasted August 2024. Gold Medal winner at the 2024 National Wine Awards of Canada. Score - 92. (Michael Godel, winealign.com)

Tasting Notes

This bubbly is non-vintage but it is primarily from the 2013 vintage. It spent 11 months on the lees and has a dosage from Steel Post Vineyard Riesling. It's lovely on the nose with lime, mineral, apple and toasty-baked bread notes. It has a gentle mousse and a range of citrus, grapefruit, and apple on the palate that's bolstered by minerality and searing acidity. Score - 90. (Rick VanSickle, winesinniagara.com, June 28, 2016)
