Gran Enemigo Agrelo Single Vineyard Cabernet Franc 2015

Description

Clove, cinnamon and exotic spices are a recurring note in the nose of the single-vineyard bottling from Agrelo, and in the case of the 2015 Gran Enemigo Agrelo Single Vineyard, it was even stronger, which gave it an unusual aromatic and fragrant personality, as most of these Gran Enemigo reds are austere rather than exuberant. There is a little more ripeness in 2015 compared with the 2016 I tasted next to it, with something reminiscent of Christmas cake developing over time in the glass. The palate is full-bodied, with some grainy tannins and a dry, more austere finish. This is a serious, powerful Gran Enemigo, with very good freshness and the stony minerality of alluvial soils. They do not really focus on the varietal anymore-it's not mentioned on the label, but it's mostly Cabernet Franc with some 15% Malbec. I had a bottle of the 2010 recently, and the wine showed superb freshness and was still young, aging at a very slow pace. Drink date: 2019-2028. Score - 95.
