Herdade São Miguel Colheita Seleccionada Tinto 2017

Description

The 2017 Herdade de São Miguel Colheita Seleccionada Tinto is a 50/30 blend of Alicante Bouschet and 30% Touriga National, with Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon filling out the blend. It was aged for six months in used French oak and comes in at 14% alcohol. Only in bottle about two weeks when seen, this still showed better than the 2017 Cicónia Reserva. Dense, deep and very rich for this level - seemingly richer than I've seen in the past - this is an intriguing regular red this year. For all of the good fruit, the structure is still modest. I'd like to see more evidence this can develop a bit, which would turn it into a steal instead of merely a fine bargain. Of course, given the modest price, this is not a risky decision. At worst, it's a lot of fun. It is worth leaning up on this for the moment. Drink Date: 2018-2027. Score - 88. (Mark Squires, robertparker.com, Aug. 31, 2018)
