Open That Bottle Night (OTBN) is an annual event celebrated on the last Saturday in February. This informal occasion was created by wine journalists Dorothy J. Gaiter and John Brecher in 2000 as a way to encourage people to open and enjoy special or significant bottles of wine that they may have been saving for a special occasion.

Do you have a great bottle of wine that you have put away for years; an old, sentimental, and possibly expensive bottle that remains patiently waiting to be opened, but there never seems to be the perfect occasion?  Open That Bottle Night is dedicated to making sure that those bottles of fine wine that have been put away for a ‘special occasion’, are finally opened up, used, and enjoyed. This day can now serve as that day everyone has been waiting for.

“Special bottles should be opened every day, for no reason at all because no one is promised tomorrow”.

While many wines certainly improve with age, this rule does not apply to all bottles so Open That Bottle before it is stored for too long and goes bad.

This unique celebration encourages people to break the habit of saving wines for an elusive "perfect moment" and instead enjoy them in the present. It's a reminder that the joy of wine lies not only in its taste but also in the memories and experiences it creates. Whether shared with friends or savored in solitude, Open That Bottle Night is an invitation to uncork the stories and flavors hidden in those special bottles. Don’t have a special bottle tucked away? Order something right now and put it away for Open That Bottle Night!
