IGT Rubicone is taken from the Rubicon River, made famous by Julius Caesar's crossing in 49 BCE. The term 'crossing the Rubicon' has come to refer to one making an irrevocable decision, which is something that suits this popular wine region very nicely: Once you taste them you will forever be a fan, especially if you try the wines of the historic Umberto Cesari estate. This Sangiovese and Cabernet example is one of Cesari's most famous wines. You can expect an approachable wine with impressive dark fruit tones. It will be ideal for grilled steak or burgers.
Tasting Note: Hints of oak spice and mocha are layered with light, supple tannins and flavors of plumped cherry and fig cake in this well-knit, medium-bodied red. Elegant, with herb and smoke accents on the chewy finish. Drink now through 2022. Score - 89. (Alison Napjus, winespectator.com, 2017)
