With over 140 years of history, Santa Carolina boasts some of Chile's oldest vines. Santa Carolina's Petit Verdot is planted in the granitic soils on the hillsides of the Rapel Valley. Expect a big, fleshy, structured wine with dark berry fruit aromas and flavours, with spice notes adding complexity.
Tasting Note: A touch shy on the nose, this dusky red shows some mineral qualities underlying the black fruit, spice and savoury licorice notes. Big and bold with the warmth of spice and pepper, it offers a focused core of intensely flavourful blueberry, blackberry and plum fruit. The tannins have been tamed to provide firm structure, but the defining character is its pure expression of the grape. Finishing dry and long, it's a good match for rare-grilled meats. Score - 4 Stars (out of 5). (Susan Desjardins, winecurrent.com, June 27, 2016)
