This is crafted from the local Negrette grape that is used to produce both red and rosé wines, and it has a history dating to at least the 12th century. This example was blended with Syrah, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon, and it will be floral with dark fruit, earth, spice and Negrette's distinct meaty character.
Tasting Note: A blend of 55% Négrette, 20% Syrah, 15% Cabernet Franc and 10% Cabernet Sauvignon that shows off the rustic meaty tones of Négrette nicely. Good depth and concentration, but with a seam of fresh acidity that keeps the overall mouthfeel lithe. Ripe dark fruit with complex notes of smoke, dried herbs, spice and fertile earth. This has the tannins for steak, but the vibrancy of the acidity makes it a versatile choice. Try with spiced sausage pastas or a beef stew. (Vintages panel, Jan. 2018)
