An East Coast award-winning lager brewed in 1937 by P.W. Oland from a batch of pure yeast he discovered in New York. The name proved difficult because most beer names then were inspired by Germany & Austria. With World War II looming on the horizon, it seemed like a good time to break with tradition. Mr Oland found his solution on a Christmas card of the world-famous Matterhorn in the Swiss Alps. It would be called Alpine. The rest, as they say, is history.
